Description:This size Hotchkiss was manufacture for the 3 inch Ordnance Rifle which had 7 lands-n-grooves. But they also fit the Parrott rifle and and are occasionally found with the 3 lands-n-grooves of that gun. Due to the sabot being on the middle of the shell the Hotchkiss was a very accurate shell.
This example has the Hotchkiss percussion fuse which will unscrew from the shell. While it may be my guess is that it is not native to the shell. The fuse is in decent condition with places the green patina crust has flaked off showing bare copper. The iron is good and hard with only one small pit near the sabot where it was drilled. The rest of the iron is good. The sabot is very nice with some of the white patina still in place. You can see faint rifling all around the shell and I would guess this was fired from a fairly worn out gun. There is no visible date on the bottom.
Shell is disarmed, cleaned and coated.
