Description:Very nice Archer bolt. Iron is solid and smooth -- most of these have junky Confederate iron. Old writing on side will come off easily if desired (I'll do it for you if you want me to).

Archers are early war projectiles that didn't stand the test of time very well. It is essentially a knock off of the Hotchkiss projectile principle but used a wooden disc or cup instead of the iron bottom on Hotchkisses to squeeze the lead into the cannon rifling upon firing. The aspect ratio is sub optimal so most these tumbled in flight.

They are cute little oddballs that are highly desirable. This one is in better condition than most. Someone offerd the previous owner $1,000 for it at the Wheaton Show years ago. He should've taken it...
