News

We have a busy upcoming show schedule with the Mansfield show May 4th & 5th and Gettysburg again in late June. 2 more shows on the calendar for July and another in August!

This website is a side gig for us fellow hobbyists, and we have full-time "real jobs." Apologies for the lack of updates recently, but we defintely have a lot of good stuff. Much of it is in the process of being cleaned and inerted, but also I will be out of the country for work quite a bit over the next 6 weeks.

So, you know the drill -- if you have things on your want list, please send them into both of us. We're like Santa's elves and constantly working to find good things for our customers. Please copy both of us on your inquiries -- a well-intentioned customer just sent us both separately after the same item which was a huge waste of time, but that movie will have a happy ending nonetheless as he's going to finally get his Whitworth.

Hope to see many of you at one of these shows.

Description:This is an excellent example of the Virginia style Read that you are sure to like. These were made for the ordnance rifles and were used on all theaters. They are popular among collectors.

The iron is very solid and nice. It is not as shiny as the image shows. There is light peppering on the iron so it shows as a good honest dug shell. But the bourrelets are nice and the bottom is extremely good. it has a nice small lathe dimple. The number "67" is from a prior collector. It looks familiar but I don't know what from.

It has wonderful dark brown patina on the fuse and sabot. The sabot is unfired with the lathe marks still visible. The fuse is not dinged from impact and seems to have some of the leather washer still under it. It is also the uncommon style fuse with the small hole in the bottom which we typically find in taller case shot smooth sided shells. It weighs in at 7lb 13oz which is close to what a case side loader version is but still about 8 ounces lighter. It is too nice to cut in half to see but I wonder....

Shell is inert, cleaned and coated.
