Relic shows are cancelling left and right, and one show promoter told me he didn't think there'd be any shows until next year. If that's the case, we'll sorely miss seeing our friends. Who knows what will happen, but we're still here operating in this new, online-only world. Getting things to where we can photograph and ship them is a little more challenging than usual, but fortunately some good people keep asking us to buy and sell their accumulations so we're plugging away! Please be patient and stay safe.

We continue to experience intermittent delivery of order emails, so it's wise to email us directly at cwbullet@hotmail.com and carl@sitherwood.com to be sure your order gets through. Thank you for your patience while we try to address this.

Description:There have been a handful of these very uncommon Rains Grenades found in the river at the Augusta Arsenal and Powder Work in Augusta, GA. This grenade had a body very similar to the US Ketchum grenade but used a detonation device known as the "Rains Pressure Sensitive" fuse where the grenade gets its name. Rains was superintendent of the Augusta site and a very key player in the Confederacy's efforts. Rather than use the large cupped plunger known on the Ketchum's there was a small pointed iron plunger. The other end had a wooden plug that a long ribbon was attached to keep the plunger as the point of contact when thrown.

This example is in excellent shape. Like almost all of them it is missing the iron plunger. Perhaps they were removed before being thrown into the river. But it does have a nice piece of the wooden plug that went into fill hole. The iron is in excellent condition. Note that there is a small while painted place This is a really nice hard to get relic.

Projectile is inert, cleaned and coated.
