Description:These shells are short and light to be used in the rifled 32-lber guns. Though all I've seen with provenance have come from lower Mississippi and Mobile areas this one is reportedly from North Carolina. The tear drop is much like the Type I James such that the projectiles design makes them very desirable as they differ from the typical conical shell shape.
This example of the Read Tear Drop bolt is about as good as they come. The iron is slick other than a very few small places of ground action. The sprue on the bottom and side are very evident and you can easily see the chisel marks. The lathe marks are evident on much of the single bourrelet. The wrought iron sabot on this is much better than most being essentially perfect. The shell is coated with a dark somewhat glossy finish and has a great look. This is a shell that will stand out in your collection and be very hard to upgrade.
Projectile is cleaned and coated.
