Description:This is a nice example for the money of a CS Side Loader using the lead filler plug. In case you don't know, when the Confederates went to iron case shot balls in the shells they couldn't drill the powder chamber as they had with lead balls so they inserted a rod into the fuse hole to create the powder chamber and then loaded the balls and matrix in the hole cast in the shell side. It worked very well and they made quite a few with lead, iron and brass filler plugs in that order of numbers made.
This shell has good iron with a few dimples from ground action but otherwise most of the iron is pretty good. It has an very nice fuse and the nice white lead plug everyone likes to see. The shell was disarmed through the bottom which leaves the small hole in the fuse intact showing the small ignition hole in the bottom.
Shell is disarmed, cleaned and coated.
