Location Recovered: Cape Fear River behind Fort Fisher, NC

Description:A very nice example of a Dahlgren naval ball fired during the heavy bombardment at Fort Fisher. According to the label (see pic) that is attached to the shell this was recovered years ago from the Cape Fear River which is located behind the peninsula where Fort Fisher was built. The ball has some patches of scaling but much of the surface is smooth. The water cap fuse is missing having seemingly blown out of it but the bushing is present and could probably take a fuse. There is some concretion in the threads so it would need chased with a tap if you wanted to put a fuse in it.

Can be easily picked up at one of the upcoming relic shows.

Shell is disarmed, cleaned and coated.
