Description:What we have here is an early battlefield dig still in as dug condition other than being disarmed through the fuse hole. I bought this rarity 7 shell from the son who got it from his father who dug it. It has been sitting on the son's shelf for years and he decided he had more interest in money than it. It would be in my collection in a heartbeat had I not found a couple of these.

This shell is a drop with a great white sabot still showing the grooves at the top and bottom of the lead band. The iron body has that well known thin Vicksburg scale that if run just a shot time in electrolysis would reveal a very smooth surface. The fuse is a brass Hotchkiss paper time adapter with nice patina. This really is a nice shell especially if you like the fresh out of the ground look. It doesn't even have any polyurethane on it.

Shell is disarmed.
